Razer Private-Equity Buyout Rumor – Who and at What Multiple
Bloomberg, Reuters and the FT all confirmed within 48 hours that three private equity firms are running due diligence on Razer.
The reported range is $4.8-5.4B, a 30-45% premium over the Hong Kong-listed price. The named firms are KKR, Silver Lake and TPG. Any of the three would have leverage to take the company fully private and run a 3-5 year operational reset.
What gets fixed in a take-private
Razer’s public-market valuation has been depressed by margin pressure on peripherals and Razer Gold expansion costs. A PE-led playbook would likely cut SKU sprawl, double down on the high-margin software (Synapse, Cortex), and either spin out or shutter the financial-services arm.
EsportForge’s view: the brand is undervalued in public markets but the operational fix is non-trivial. Watch for a definitive announcement within 30 days.
